Terracing is almost as old as agriculture itself. More than 4,000 years ago the Incas were terracing sleep hillsides. Modern terracing in South Carolina began in 1933, but for more than a century before that time South Carolina planters had used ditches and furrows across the slope to intercept runoff and retard erosion. This article traces the development of terracing in South Carolina from the first use of hillsideditches to present day terrace construction and use. |

Here we addressed the influence of the host plant genotype, geographic location, and organ type on the structure and function of the endophytic bacterial community of P. cupana. We also established a microbial collection with potential application in agriculture. |
